ESF Exploratory Workshop on:
EUROPE'S GREEN BACKBONE - Post-socialist land use change in the Carpathian Region
(EuCaRe)

9-10 Octobre 2008, Berlin Adlershof, Germany

Objectives

Eastern Europe experienced drastic changes in politics and socio-economics after 1990. This affected land management; yet, little is known about the rates and spatial patterns of land change, its underlying causes, and the consequences of land use change for biodiversity. The proposed workshop’s goals are twofold: First, to synthesize knowledge on post-socialist land use change and biodiversity in the Carpathian region. Second, to define the conceptual and methodological framework for an integrated land use change project in this understudied region.
