This talk examines the effect of African popular music during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. It underscores the vital role and potential that music could play in the ongoing information warfare against the virus. It emphasizes the need to think more critically about perception management in staving off the effect of anti-vaxxer discourses seeking to upend the effort at ending the continued spread of mutant variants worldwide. The presentation focuses its analysis on the lyrics, the soundscapes, and the sociolinguistic impact of African Popular Music in shaping thoughts about the pandemic across the continent.
