Institute of European and Russian Studies
The Institute of European and Russian Studies (EURUS) is the
oldest institute of its type in Canada; currently it brings together
a wide range of expertise on Europe, European integration, and the
transition from communism in the countries of Central Europe, the
Balkans and the former Soviet Union. The Institute offers interdisciplinary
B.A. Honours degrees and M.A. degrees, hosts a variety of research
and assistance projects relating to the region, and sponsors numerous
public lectures and other events.

Russian Studies Department
The Russian Studies Department offers classes in Russian language,
literature, culture and history. Since Russia plays a crucial role
in today's world and makes important contributions in a wide variety
of scientific, technical, and humanistic fields, knowledge of its
linguistic and cultural backgrounds can prove advantageous in many
areas of study. Recent radical shifts in the country have significantly
widened opportunities for using Russian in business, law, science,
and government.

Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies
The Faculty of Business, through its Centre for International Business
Studies (CIBS), and in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts, Department
of Modern Languages, has developed this innovative and unique program.
It is designed to produce Business graduates with all the functional
skills required by the modern business world and couple that with
language expertise in one or more of the languages of Europe and
knowledge of the politics, history, economics and culture of Europe.

German Studies is an Interdisciplinary Minor, Major and Honours
Program offered jointly by the University of New Brunswick and St.
Thomas University. The German Studies Program provides the opportunity
to combine the study of the language, literature, history, political
science, and various socio-cultural aspects of the German-speaking
peoples within the context of a larger Europe. The attainment of
proficiency in the German language is an integral part of German
Studies at all levels. A committee drawn from the departments involved
in the program administers the program.

Russian and Eurasian Studies is an interdisciplinary major and
minor program offered jointly by the University of New Brunswick
and Saint Thomas University. A committee drawn from the departments
involved in the program administers it. Interested students should
first contact the Director who is the representative from the Russian
section of the Department of German and Russian.

Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures
Estonian Studies at the University of Toronto are concerned with
the language, literature, and culture of Estonia. Comprehension
of Baltic cultures requires knowledge of culture contacts between
Baltic and Finno-Ugric language groups, and the historical dynamics
of shaping forces from both Slavic and Germanic directions. Complementing
course offerings in Baltic History, interdisciplinary Estonian and
Baltic literature, civilization, and folklore courses taught in
English represent further opportunities to contextualize Estonian
Studies on the regional and European map. The teaching of Estonian
language and culture is one of the stated goals of the Chair of
Estonian Studies, and thus a part of its original curricular design.

Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies
The Centre's Master of Arts in Russian and East European Studies
(MA REES) programs are designed to provide a well-rounded education
in Russian and East European affairs for students who wish to pursue
professional, non-academic careers in areas such as government and
diplomacy, journalism, business, and teaching. The programs also
enrich and broaden the base of knowledge of beginning graduate students
considering any PhD-level study with a specialization in the Russian
and East European area.
