Toolbox is a computer program used mainly for creating dictionaries as well as annotating and glossing texts. This introduction to the software shall give participants a brief overview of basic Toolbox features, and how to use Toolbox when dealing with Saami languages. Students will also have the chance to practice using Toolbox.
Participants are requested to install Toolbox on their computers if possible before the technical demonstration on 3rd March 2010. It is freeware designed and provided by SIL with the Windows operating systems in mind.
Mac: It is necessary to run Toolbox using virtual machine software to emulate Windows; see here for more details (for some reason, the "Toolbox for Mac" version does not seem to include the help file, so I recommend using the Windows version).
Linux: Toolbox does not run natively on Linux, but can work using Windows emulation software for Linux.
Participants are also asked to download the two sample Toolbox projects.
