5.5.5 CRAB LICE
Crab lice, also known as "crabs" live and breed mostly in pubic hair and thus can be transmitted from one person to another by close sexual contact. In rare instances, the transfer may also be through infested clothing or bed linen. In any case, their presence will soon be noticed since they cause a persistent itching in the pubic area. The condition is treated with a prescription item, Kwell (ointment, lotion, or shampoo), or with A-200 Pyrinate, which is available without prescription. Before using any medication, a hot bath and extensive washing with soap are important. Wearing clean clothing afterwards will prevent reinfestation. Clothing and linen which may be infested should be dry cleaned or laundered and dried in a hot dryer.
