The Birth of Sexology 1908 - 1933

Originally, the exhibition had been presented at the 6th World Congress of Sexology 1983 in Washington, D.C. It had been organized with the support of the Kinsey Institute. The financial sponsors were: 1. Institut für kulturelle Auslandsbeziehungen, Stuttgart, 2. the Austrian Institute, New York, 3. the Goethe Institute, San Francisco. An accompanying free booklet (see front cover on the left) was sponsored by the Senator for Science and Research, Berlin. The introductory text of this booklet can be accessed by clicking here.

The exhibition consisted of 50 large display boards showing the birth and the first 25 years of sexology in Berlin. In particular it documented the work of the most important German Pioneers of Sexology.

Subsequently, the exhibition was shown in other countries:

  • 1984 Copenhagen (Denmark), Stockholm, Gothenburg (both Sweden), Oldenburg, Marburg (both Germany)
  • 1986 Zurich (Switzerland)
