Conference
A
century after Strindberg finished his epochmaking play Ett
Drömspel the 15th International
Strindberg Conference will be held in Berlin – a place of some
considerable importance for August Strindberg. It was Max Reinhardt’s
staging of his plays there that founded Strindberg’s international fame.
In Berlin he joined the group of artists that met at the Schwarzes
Ferkel and with Edvard
Munch he exhibited some of his paintings in the Freie
Ausstellung. Another
field of research are the adaptations of Strindberg’s works for film and
television. The new medium film shows an early interest in Strindberg. In
1912 filmproductions of Fröken
Julie und Fadren were made
in Sweden. A few years later three other films – one by Ernst Lubitsch,
and with Asta Nielsen und Harriet Bosse in the leading parts – had their
world premiers in Berlin. Several recent TV and movie adaptations show the
continued fascination of Strindberg’s work for a contemporary audience. |
