John Schulze
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

I was born in the small town of Buxtehude and moved to the big city of Berlin three years ago to study at Humboldt-University. My major is US Studies and I have two minors, Political Studies and Recent History. Naturally, I am interested in international organization in a world ruled by money and business interests - and the growing movement opposed to this fact. Especially fascinating I find the role of the last superpower in this world. Not only in a political context, but also in a cultural one. I myself am - how to say, addicted? - to American music, literature, movies, etc. I realized this at some point in my life and that is why I picked US Studies. I spent a semester at Bard College in 2002 and I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the nature surrounding the campus - probably because it is the exact opposite to Humboldt-University?

In my non-Humboldt life, I listen to and play music, every day all day. I try to be open-minded to all kinds of music, since I feel that music is mankind?s greatest invention ever. To earn the money I need to be able to keep on studying I hold two jobs: I work at IES, a US-based organization which manages US / German student exchanges, and I teach courses for adolescents with topics like job preparation, conflict management and anti-racism. Maybe all this will somehow lead to a decent and interesting job someday.
