Emily Steinberg
Bard College

Emily Steinberg is in her fourth year at Bard College in New York State. As an Historical Studies major with an intensive concentration in Gender & Sexuality Studies, she has also dabbled in related topics such as political economy, African and Diaspora Studies, and Human Rights using a focus on women and sexual subcultures to extract the gendered meanings inherent within them. She was born in 1982 in the city of Rochester, New York to two "baby-boomers", who grew up in the midst of the Vietnam War confusion and whose pacifist and Zen Buddhist spiritual ideologies greatly influenced her early on.

Emily works as Program Development and Research Assistant to Bard's Gender & Sexuality Studies Program, and is currently the Chair of Counseling of Bard's rape crisis center, B.R.A.V.E. A member of the Bard Ladies' Misbehavior Society, Student Action Collective, Animal Rights Group, and Queer Alliance, she plans to attend graduate school in South Africa to study the theory and practice of Human Rights in 2005.
