Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems
Founded in 2013, the Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems (IRI THESys) is a flagship activity of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. As integral component of HU’s institutional strategy, the IRI THESys is designed as an inter-faculty research institute bringing together scientists from humanities, social and natural sciences collaborate to solve interdisciplinary research questions related to the societal challenges of transforming human-environment systems. The involved scientists focus on research questions of land- and resource-use, urbanization in the 21st century, climate change impacts and intra- and intergenerational environmental justice.
The IRI THESys supports sustainability not only in research, but also in innovation and exchange. Among others, the institute actively supports the dialogue between science and civil society through public activities such as lecture series, summer universities and exhibitions.
