The goal of this seminar is to explain defect CFT at a level suitable for a non-expert audience. The talk will be structured as follows: (1) the study of both CFT and defects will be motivated in the contexts of QFT and AdS/CFT correspondence, (2) the main part will consist into a crash course on CFT, mostly reviewing important concepts and results without derivation, with a small portion being dedicated to N=4 SYM, (3) we will then focus on the case of a Wilson-line defect, and explain interesting aspects of the broken conformal symmetry.
