Vinicius de Aguiar Furuie

Vinicius Furuie I am a PhD candidate at Princeton University and associate of the L:AEHR.

I work with river traders on the Xingu River basin in the Brazilian Amazon. I am interested in the historical dimension of exchange of glass beads in the early 20th century, studying it through objects collected in the Berlin Ethnological Museum as well as accounts from German explorers of the time. I have conducted fieldwork with contemporary river traders and written about the challenges posed by the construction of the Belo Monte dam, in the outskirts of the city of Altamira, as well as climate change.
