The game series ''Emergency''[https://www.world-of-emergency.com/] is an example for a serious game of this field (Picture on the right). Here, the player slips into a role of a chief of operations of the police, fire department, ambulance or the german THW (Federal Agency for Technical Relief). ''Emergency'' is designed as a Real-Time-Strategy game - meaning: The player is faced with a presenatation of a scenario and has to make decisions in real time. For example telling the police officers on the scene what actions they have to take or calling for support etc.

Serious games are also widely used in disaster management, defense and recruitment. While the previous listed category aims at policy-makers, this one rather aims at municipal facilities - such as Police, Fire departments, ambulance etc. The games are used to prepare members of these institutions for scenarios like natural disasters and terror. It is meant to teach them how to handle certain challenges when under pressure and with a lack of resources.
