Dr. Dimity Stephen
Dimity is a postdoctoral researcher at the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW) in Berlin. She completed her undergraduate studies in psychology and PhD in public health at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, before moving to Berlin in 2017. Dimity’s main research focus lies in applying bibliometric methods to investigate questions pertaining to questionable publishing practices, peer review, and the quality of research outputs. She is a Principal Investigator in this project, leading the bibliometrics work and managing the overall project.
Prof. Dr. Emanuel Kulczycki
Emanuel is a social scientist, currently serving as head of Berlin department of the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW) and professor at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His academic background is in philosophy and communication, which has fueled his passion for investigating critical aspects of scholarly communication. His research primarily focuses on the nuances of predatory publishing and the far-reaching consequences of research evaluation systems. He is a Principal Investigator in this project, supporting and collaborating with the team in Poland due to his expertise in this context.
Prof. Dr. Martin Reinhart
Martin is a professor for science studies and evaluation research at the Berlin School of Library and Information Science and acting director of the Robert K. Merton Center for Science Studies. He studied sociology, economics and computer science at the University of Basel, where he received a doctorate in 2012, specialising in science studies and research on peer review. Martin worked at the universities of Basel, Luzern, ETH Zürich and is now at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His research interests are research evaluation, the relation between science and society, translation of scientific knowledge, and the governance of science. Martin is a Principal Investigator in this project.
Dr. Meta Cramer
Meta is a senior researcher at the Robert K. Merton Center for Science Studies (RMZ) in Berlin. She completed her undergraduate studies in “Sociology, Politics and Economics” and pursued a MA in Social Sciences at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. From 2020-2024 Meta was a member of an interdisciplinary graduate school on Empires and worked on her dissertation on social knowledge production in the Caribbean. Meta is especially interested in combining questions about larger (global) power structures with those in science studies. In this project, she is responsible for developing and conducting a survey on publishing cultures.
