Team - Germany

Dr. Dimity Stephen

I’m a postdoctoral researcher at the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW) in Berlin. I completed my undergraduate studies in psychology and PhD in public health at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, before moving to Berlin in 2017. My main research focus lies in applying bibliometric methods to investigate questions pertaining to questionable publishing practices, peer review, and the quality of research outputs. I am a Principal Investigator in this project and lead primarily the bibliometrics work.

Prof. Dr. Martin Reinhart

I am a professor for science studies and evaluation research at the Berlin School of Library and Information Science and acting director of the Robert K. Merton Center for Science Studies. I studied sociology, economics and computer science at the University of Basel, where I received a doctorate in 2012, specialising in science studies and research on peer review. I worked at the universities of Basel, Luzern, ETH Zürich and am now at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. My research interests are research evaluation, the relation between science and society, translation of scientific knowledge, and the governance of science. I am a Principal Investigator on this project.

Dr. Meta Cramer

I am a senior researcher at the Robert K. Merton Center for Science Studies (RMZ) in Berlin. After completing a BA in “Sociology, Politics and Economics” at Zeppelin University in Germany (including exchange semesters in Tel Aviv and Oxford), I pursued a MA in Social Sciences in Berlin, and spent another semester abroad in London. From 2020-2024 I was a member of an interdisciplinary graduate school on Empires and worked on my dissertation on social knowledge production in the Caribbean. I am especially interested in combining questions about larger (global) power structures with those in science studies. In this project, I am responsible for developing and conducting a survey on publishing cultures.
