The "Stadtlabor for Multimodal Anthropology" aims at developing ‘an anthropology of/as urbanism’. It critically explores governmental, everyday, insurgent and more-than-human practices of city making. It also experiments with ethnography as a more-than-textual, multimodal practice.

Margherita Tess

Short bio

Margherita (they/them) has a mixed background in Japanese studies and environmental sciences and graduated in Cultural Anthropology from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. As part of their MA thesis, they conducted an ethnography of informal biodiversity conservation practices in the Venetian lagoon. As a member of the SFB Project “The Urban Microclimate Regime,” they will now focus on problematizations of urban heat as a spatial phenomenon and processes of infrastructuralization of heat resilient cities, looking at Fukuoka as a case study. As a workshop facilitator, they co-produced three laboratories based in Venice and Mestre that dealt with citizen science solutions for marine conservation and sustainable solutions for harbor cities.
