The PhD-Net
The PhD-Net »Das Wissen der Literatur« is a bi-national doctoral program, based at the Institut für deutsche Literatur at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. It cooperates with six partner universities in the USA: Harvard University, Cornell University, Yale University, New York University, Princeton University, and University of California, Berkeley. The focus on the relationship between knowledge (»Wissen«) and literature responds to recent methodological considerations in literary studies and establishes the basis for the doctoral exchange. Since October 2008 the PhD-Net has been offering German and international doctoral students a stimulating environment for joint academic education, research, and discussion. Doctoral candidates in the PhD-Net study abroad at the partner institutions for a maximum of two terms. During that time they participate in the PhD-program under the supervision of an international faculty member. The supervision can be extended until completion of the dissertation project. Fifteen full professors belong to the core faculty of the PhD-Net; an additional faculty of renowned European and US scholars complement the program as mentors. Working languages are German and English.
