Preparation is crucial if you want to study abroad. For your stay in Berlin you will need accommodation, insurance, and possibly a visa. Find out about the most important steps here.
You can find out whether you need a visa for your visit to Germany on the Federal Foreign Office website under visa requirements. If you need a visa, we will happily issue you an official letter of invitation once you have registered for Humboldt Perspectives Study Abroad. This letter can be sent to you by post or e-mail. You can use this letter to apply for a visa at the German Embassy. As this can take some time, we recommend registering for Humboldt Perspectives Study Abroad as early as possible.
Unfortunately, Humboldt-Universität does not provide accommodation for Humboldt Perspectives Study Abroad participants. However, once you have been admitted to the program, we will provide recommendations and addresses to help you find an apartment or shared room in Berlin.
All students enrolled at a German university are required to have health insurance - this also applies to international guest students. Proof of health insurance may be required when you apply for a visa, but at the latest, when you enrol at Humboldt-Universität. Therefore, please take out suitable health insurance with your home or German health insurance company before you arrive in Berlin. Alternatively, you can take out health insurance through our partner. We offer you the opportunity to take out comprehensive and inexpensive student insurance through Humboldt-Universität. Further information on health insurance can be found on this web page.
