The Nicolai map is a non-local and non-linear map that transforms fields between interacting and free theories. As such it can be used as an alternative to standard techniques for quantizing quantum field theories as well as for performing perturbative computations without using the usual Feynman diagrammatic machinery. In this (online) talk I will review how the Nicolai map works and present on-going research applications on supermembrane theory and N=4 super Yang-Mills with and without defects.
