The kinematic structure of Yang-Mills theory shows a fascinating pattern that is dual to the relations between its color factors. This so-called color-kinematics duality is observed in many more theories, but it is still unclear what its algebraic origin is. In my talk, I will introduce Hilbert series and related concepts from invariant theory, which allow for the enumeration (and sometimes construction) of polynomials with specific properties. I will use these tools to study the color-kinematics duality in scalar effective field theory.

I’m aiming for a mostly blackboard talk.
