Abstract: In this seminar, I will describe recent discoveries of unexpected connections between abstract branches of mathematics and theoretical particle physics. At the core of this connection, is the use of methods from algebraic geometry and number theory, to develop a new understanding of scattering amplitudes. In particular, I will elaborate on how these new ideas are fuelling a revolution in our approach to the calculation of scattering amplitudes relevant for particle collider physics and, more recently, also for applications in cosmology.
