Gustav Uhre Jakobsen will give his seminar next Monday (24th of October) at 11:00 on theĀ Kerr metric and black hole perturbation theory

Abstract:
Black holes are fascinating phenomenon of general relativity. The simplest examples of black holes are the well known exact solutions of Einstein’s vacuum field equations such as the Kerr metric describing stationary isolated black holes. Black hole perturbation theory explores how these stationary black holes respond to small external perturbations. This theory is used in gravitational wave analysis to describe the final ringdown stage of binary mergers. I will introduce this subject including the important quasinormal modes of black holes.
