PhD Student Felipe Diaz-Jaramillo will present Homotopy Algebras and the Double Copy at this student seminar on Monday 17th at 11 am in the Theoretical physics department.

Abstract;

In this blackboard talk I will introduce homotopy Lie algebras and discuss their relation to field theories. In short, these algebras can be thought of as the mathematical structures underlying field theories, just as Lie algebras are the mathematical structures underlying continuous symmetries. As a concrete example I will write Yang-Mills theory in this language. To conclude the talk, I will show how thinking of Yang-Mills in terms of homotopy algebras can be helpful to understand different aspects of the double copy construction which states, roughly speaking, that exchanging colour information by kinematic information in Yang-Mills amplitudes leads to gravity amplitudes.
