Perturbative computations in quantum field theory have revealed that quantities such as scattering amplitudes and mass corrections are made of mysterious transcendental numbers and exotic functions. It has been a longstanding question how an exact result reproducing these expansions would look like, and has motivated theorists to look at simpler toy models for trying to unravel this hidden structure. In this seminar we review some results related to this quest, and show how it motivates our research on theories strongly constrained by symmetries.
