Are you looking for an apartment in Berlin? Are you wondering whether you need a visa or health insurance for the winter and summer courses at Humboldt-Universität? We have compiled the most important information for your smooth stay in Berlin.
You can check if you need a visa for your visit to Germany on the website of the Federal Foreign Office under visa requirements. If you need to apply for a visa, we will be happy to issue an official letter of invitation once HUWISU registration and payment of the full course fee is complete. This can be sent to you by post or e-mail. As this can take some time, we recommend that you register for the HUWISU courses as early as possible.
To make your journey easier and help you find accommodation, we have prepared some useful information for you. Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin does not provide student accommodation for short-term programs. However, there is a limited number of apartments/rooms available for participants of the HUWISU short term program at:
Student Apartments at Berlinovo. Adalbertstraße / Melchiorstraße, 10179 Berlin.
Rooms can be booked during the online registration for your HUWISU course.
The rent for a single room in a shared student apartment is 460,- Euro. A deposit of 200 Euro has to be paid in cash upon arrival.
Dates of Arrival and Departure (Check In/Check Out): Arrival: Sunday, 04 January from 2 pm – 8 pm Departure: Saturday, 24 January from 8 am – 1 pm
It is not possible to move into the apartments outside these hours. Unfortunately, we cannot make any exceptions!
Equipment of the Apartments The apartments at Adalbertstrasse/ Melchiorstrasse are completely furnished with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. Two participants share an apartment. Kitchen, bathroom and living area will be shared with the other housemate. As a rule, people of the same sex share an apartment.
The Steps Hotel. Liebenwalder Straße 22, 13347 Berlin
You will be booking directly through the hotel and receive special conditions. The booking information will be sent immediately upon receipt of the participation fee. You will be able to book accommodation at the Steps Hotel until 05 December 2025.
The rooms are equipped with basic and functional furnishings. Breakfast is included as well as bed linen and towels. There is a 24/7 reception desk and late arrivals are no problem. Free WIFI. You can choose from single room or economy twin room. If you would like to share the room with a specific person, please state this directly when booking the room.

The address of Humboldt's main building is Unter den Linden 6, 10117 Berlin. At this point, we would like to mention that Humboldt-Universität is not a typical campus university, meaning the classrooms are in different parts of the city. However, all classrooms are in the district Mitte, and Berlin's public transportation is excellent.
You may want to check out hostels or flats in districts like Schöneberg, Wedding, Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Friedrichshain, or Prenzlauer Berg.
Since the number of students and internationals staying in Berlin short-term or for an extended period is high, the flat-sharing market is very competitive. Several websites have offerings, and we hope you will find suitable accommodation. After you're admitted to the program, we'll send you more recommendations and addresses to support your search.

The program fees for the Humboldt Winter and Summer University does not include insurance coverage. All participants must have a health insurance valid in Germany - without such insurance, medical care in Germany can be very expensive. Nationals of some countries must present proof of insurance when applying for a visa. German customs can also request proof of insurance when crossing the border.
In addition to health insurance, we recommend accident and liability insurance. Students are liable for all culpably caused damage.
