How to apply for the Humboldt Internship Program in Berlin
Have our research projects and start-up teams piqued your interest? Would you like to spend three months researching in Berlin and gain valuable practical experience? On this page you will find all the information relevant for the application process.

Admission requirements

To participate in the Humboldt Internship Program, you must:
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be enrolled at your home university for the entire duration of the research stay.
  • Be an advanced Bachelor's student, a Master's student or a doctoral student.

Steps to the application

  1. Select a project from the list in which you would like to participate.
  2. Register on our MoveOn application portal and start the application process. Fill in all the fields and state the exact project title you would like to participate in. You can also enter two alternative projects as your second and third choice
  3. Mark each page as complete.
  4. Please have the scans of the following documents ready to upload (PDF):
    • Proof of identity (passport or identity card)
    • Valid student ID card
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Letter of motivation (adapted to your project selection)
    • Letter of recommendation from an academic faculty member or former workplace (can also be emailed to the program coordinator)
    • Transcript of Records with a list of the courses taken at the home university to-date
  5. You will be notified when the project managers receive your complete application documents.
  6. The project managers may ask for a telephone call/online conversation or send an e-mail with questions.
  7. As soon as you have been admitted, you will receive an e-mail with further information on how to prepare for your research stay in Berlin.

Application Deadline

You can apply for the Humboldt Internship Program 2025 in fall/winter 2024 (the exact dates will be announced here by September).
