How do we cohabit in troubled planetary ecologies? How to do environmental anthropology amid troubled ecologies and global struggles for democracy? And how can ethnographic film serve as one possible device for a public and engaged environmental anthropology?
We tackle these questions in the impulse talk “Ethnographic film as a format for Public Anthropology? Thinking with Beekeeping in the End Times,” alongside the screening of the film “Beekeeping in the End Times” by anthropologists and filmmakers Larisa Jašarević and Azra Jašarević.
About the film
Beekeeping in the End Times is an indie documentary by Larisa Jašarević and Azra Jašarević, the co-directors, sisters, and beekeepers. It brings together ethnographic research and filmmaking to tell upbeat stories about multispecies love and human responsibility in the face of the world going to wrack and ruin.
The talk and the screening are followed by a joint discussion, sparked by comments from the anthropologists, filmmakers, and beekeepers Greca Meloni (University of Vienna) and Felix Remter (Rachel Carson Center LMU Munich)
