Anja Klein’s Monograph
“Earthly Models. Ethnographic Encounters in Interdisciplinary Sustainability Research”
has just been published with transcript in September 2026!
About the book:
Models of floods, disease, lakes, and fish don’t arrive ready-made – they’re patched together from code, data, theory, habits, and disagreement. Moving between ethnography and equations, Anja Klein traces moments of frictions and surprise that shape what a model can or cannot say about the world. She brings together environmental anthropology and feminist philosophies of science to show the potential of working across ethnography and simulation for knowing better our planet in crisis.
The book is based on a dissertation project carried out at IfEE and the Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems (IRI THESys).
